Flower of the Week: Black Crowberry
Black Crowberry (Empetrum nigrum) is a plant that is native to Saskatchewan, along with other parts of North America. It grows low to the ground and is part of the heather family. The berries are edible and can be eaten raw or made into food product such as jam. They are high in vitamin C and K and are an excellent source of fibre and antioxidants. Crowberries have been used in herbal medicine to treat fever, help with kidney heath and aid in treating colds.
